Seen through the window of a Brighton barbershop, a barber puts the finishing touches to his client’s haircut. Surrounded by reflections, signage and the carefully arranged details of the shop, an everyday ritual becomes a moment of quiet concentration and craft. Serg’s photograph captures the relationship between appearance and identity – the small transformations through which we shape how we present ourselves to the world. Framed by the shopfront, barber and client become performers in another scene from Brighton’s everyday theatre.
