Teddy - Original

Teddy plays with the imagery and language of bear culture within the gay community, bringing together physical masculinity with an unexpected sense of softness and play.

The juxtaposition is both humorous and tender: the familiar visual codes of the gay bear - size, body hair, tattoos and strength are contrasted with the childhood comfort and vulnerability represented by the toy.

The work looks beyond outward appearances, exploring the different identities we inhabit and the contradictions that can exist within a single persona.
