Rob Makin 4 - A3 Dibond Photographic Print

In this series of black-and-white portraits, Sergio Rodriguez photographs Rob Makin with an intimacy and directness that moves between strength, vulnerability and self-expression.

Rob’s heavily tattooed body becomes both subject and canvas. Serg moves between composed portraiture, close studies of the body and full-frontal nudity, using light, shadow and tightly considered compositions to draw attention to form, texture and the extraordinary detail of Rob’s tattoos. At times confrontational and at others unexpectedly tender, the photographs celebrate the male body without disguising or diminishing its physicality.

Stripped of colour, the series has an almost sculptural quality. Skin, body hair, ink, jewellery and gesture emerge against deep black backgrounds, creating portraits that feel both highly personal and unapologetic. 

Within the PERSONAE collection, the series explores masculinity, sexuality, vulnerability and the different ways we choose to present and reveal ourselves.
