Play Orpheus - Original
Play Orpheus brings together several recurring threads in Dan Flores’ work: tattooed bodies, masculinity, companionship and the relationship between strength and tenderness.
A group of heavily tattooed men are woven together among coils of rope, creating an almost mythological cast of characters. At the centre of the composition, a small white dog provides an unexpected point of softness, contrasting with the physicality of the figures and the rugged maritime setting.
The title nods to Orpheus, the legendary musician of Greek mythology, adding another layer to a work that plays with storytelling, character and the bonds that connect us.
