Charlie Gray - Original

Charlie Gray is a portrait of Dan’s friend Charlie, whose connection to the PERSONAE collection extends beyond her appearance in the painting. Charlie introduced Dan and Serg to Rob Makin, another of the exhibition’s central subjects, after the pair appeared together on Handcuffed.

Dan presents Charlie with a sense of playful elegance, holding an extravagantly decorated cupcake against a soft, atmospheric background. Her patterned clothing, jewellery and the flashes of pink and turquoise give the portrait a lightness and individuality.

The work also reflects the personal relationships behind PERSONAE, where friends, chance introductions and creative collaborations have become intertwined with the art itself.
