Breakfast Boys - Original

Breakfast Boys draws on Dan Flores’ childhood memories of groups of working men gathering in greasy spoon cafés before the start of the day. He remembers the cigarette smoke, cramped bookmakers, discarded betting slips and macho banter - and an early awareness that he felt different from the men around him.

Filtered through memory, the scene becomes less a literal recollection than a portrait of masculinity Dan observed as a child. Within the exhibition, PERSONAE, the work reflects on identity, belonging and the environments that shape our understanding of who we are, and who we are not.
